The active matrix colour screen measures 7.1 inches diagonally and supports an internal resolution of 800 x 480. This is a dramatic increase in the viewing area which helps users easily view information, whether as spreadsheet, document or Internet page. With the Libretto's 2 MB of Video RAM, mobile users can now take full advantage of True Colour at external resolutions of 800 x 600.
The heart of the new Libretto 100CT is a 166 MHz Pentium® processor with MMX technology running on 1.8 volts. The system is barely larger than a notepad and weighs just 950g. Its 2.167 billion byte hard disk measures an astonishing 7.5 mm in height. With 32 MB RAM (expandable up to 64 MB), the Libretto 100CT is small enough to fit into a coat pocket and big enough to handle any standard full-sized Windows applications. In fact, the Libretto 100CT can deal with any Windows® application which lets companies integrate the system into existing corporate computing environments.
Like earlier Libretto models, the 100CT is a wonder of technology. In designing the Libretto, Toshiba engineers used new technologies to deal efficiently with system heat and miniaturisation. Toshiba engineers have also used a two-layer memory mounting technique the mounting area by 50%. For users, all of this translates into a PC that's small and easy to carry.
The Libretto 100CT has an extended battery life of up to 2.5 hours, giving it the energy to match its portability. With the addition of the optional extra battery, the Libretto's mains-free operating time goes up to a full 5 hours. With the bundled Mini Port Replicator and the optional Mini Card Station, the Libretto 100CT also has extensive docking capabilities.
With the Libretto 100CT, users can easily dial into Internet services or corporate networks via remote access. Here Toshiba engineers have managed to incorporate full-scale expansion into the mini-notebook format. The Libretto 100CT supports two Type II PC Cards or one Type III card. Standard PC Cards - whether for communications or network connectivity, can be used. This opens up the complete range of telephony and fax functions. "The Libretto 100CT shows what the future of mini-notebooks has in store for users," says Kossessa. "More power and more storage mean that the smallest and lightest full-function Windows® 95 PC in the world can claim to be not only the ultimate in portable computing but also an interesting alternative for itinerant corporate workers."
