Strong Angel

In May 2000 the DARPA One-way Phrase Translation System (PTS)   was demonstrated and used in Strong Angel as part of RIMPAC 2000 - a joint military exercise conducted by six Pacific Rim countries and Great Britain.  Over 500 humanitarian assistance and medical phrases were translated into seven of the most common Pacific Rim Languages: Arabic, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Swahili, and Tagalog. U. S. Military personnel used the PTS to communicate with non-English speaking refugees and to gather registration information.  Dragon Systems, Inc. and Marine Acoustics, Inc. developed and provided the PTS, and provided support for the Strong Angel Exercise.
